Huffer Summer 2011 Collection

I'm loving the new Summer collection by the team at Huffer. 'Coming Attractions' is a tribute to carnivals, traveling fairs and festivals. Reminiscing summer days, festive nights, fortune tellers and the thrill of the ride.

I'm looking forward to getting home and preparing for another summer with some of the great dresses Huffer do each season.

Tiki

Tiki comes from Maori mythology where Tiki is the first man, created by Tane, who created the first woman, Marikoriko, out of the earth, and through her mankind. A symbol of both traditional and cultural identity, the Tiki features in a range of designs and artwork in New Zealand.

Designs in both traditional styles and designs with a more modern twist, such as the well known piece by New Zealand artist, Dick Frizzel below. I've added some of my favorite creations below, which all hero the Tiki symbol in their design.

MiH Jeans Autumn/Winter Campaign

I love this new campaign by British denim label, MiH Jeans, who not only do great jeans, which are worn by a long list of celebrities, but they also do great jackets, shirts and tees.  All of which you can buy on their website.

Touchemoa

In the words of the two sisters behind this label, Touchemoa is Onirism, romanticism, smoothness of the lines, sensuality, and poetry.  Starting out designing t-shirts, the two sisters who have degrees in Art and History quickly moved on to designing their own clothing, and the beautiful, feminine pieces are a perfect contrast between romantic and urban design.  And even better, the collection is conveniently available online here.

Wilde Vintage

I have always loved sunglasses and from an early age I would save up my money to buy myself a new pair every Summer.  I have owned some great sunglasses, everything from Guccis to Dolce & Gabbanas, Carreras, a great pair by Chloe and some red wayfarers by Ray-Ban.   So when I came to Barcelona, Wilde Vintage was one store I was most definitely going to check out, and I wasn't disappointed.

The owner of Wild Vintage, who you also have the pleasure of being served by when you go into his store, has been collecting sunglasses for over a decade and still travels the world collecting unique and interesting sunglasses for his store.  More recently he has designed his own brand of sunglasses (see below), made from acetate with metal hinges.  He has kept the shapes to a minimum of about six, but played around with various finishes and lenses and even has a selection with clear lenses.  I walked away with a pair of Wilde Oscar Mates in matte black and love them.  Every person who purchases a pair of sunnies gets their photo taken with their new shades, which gets posted up on their website.  This store is a must visit if you are ever in Barcelona!

Mushi Mushi

I'm currently staying in an area in Barcelona, called Gracia, which is a gorgeous area, conveniently filled with equally gorgeous boutiques. One of my favorite discoveries is a beautiful store called Mushi Mushi. Opened in 2009, this darling store stocks a range of clothing and accessories from local designers, as well as designers collections from France, Belgium and Denmark.

Bringing back snail mail

I made a conscious decision when I came overseas that I would not send large, lengthy, group emails to my friends and family with updates on my adventures - with Skype and Facebook, they are kept pretty much up to date anyway.
However, I did decide I would send them cards and postcards, so before I left I bought a gorgeous address book from Kikki-K and ensured I had everyones addresses and I have done just that.   Everyone has loved it!  Who receives much in the post these days, other than bills and junk mail?  I think we need to bring back snail mail!
Here are some cards to help inspire you!

(Flat note cards by the Metropolitan Museum of Art; available at Kate's Paperie)

(Flat notecard set of 6 from Tabletop Made on Etsy)

(Pantone postcards, available from Chronicle Books)

(Gift cards by Kate Spade)

(Sketch pattern thank you card set by Farewell Paperie on Etsy)
